Chapter 201
-Ava’s POV-
The car screeched to a halt outside the abandoned steel factory, the engine sputtering before falling silent. |
leapt out, my shoes hitting the cracked pavement as | scanned the area. The factory stood silent and foreboding,
its broken windows like hollow eyes watching me.
“Bels, we're here,” | said through the link. “How far out are you?”
‘Five minutes, she replied. ‘Don’t do anything stupid, Lilian. Wait for backup. We don’t know who is in there and
Liam had more power and connections than any of us know. Your parent’s pack might not be enough. Rickon has
more wolves.
‘Okay.’ Then | shut off the connection.
But | couldn't wait. Grayson didn’t have five minutes.
“Are you coming?” | asked my mother without looking at her, already striding toward the entrance.
“Wait,” She said, grabbing my arm. “We can’t just walk in blind.”
“I don’t have a choice,” | snapped, wrenching my arm free. “You can stay here and wait for the pack to get here,
but I'm going in.”
| didn’t wait for her response. | pushed open the rusted doors, gently not to make so much noise. The steel door
creaked on its hinges as | slipped into the factory.
Inside, the air was thick with the stench of oil and rust. My wolf senses flared instantly, catching traces of sweat
and adrenaline-there were men inside. My breath hitched, but | forced myself to move silently, keeping low and
close to the shadows of the towering machines that lined the room like forgotten giants.
The faint clatter of metal echoed through the cavernous space, drawing my attention to a group of men several
feet ahead, They moved with purpose, hauling crates and equipment across the floor. The faint hum of
machinery cfrom deeper within the building, almost drowned out by the sound of my heartbeat hammering
in my ears.
| crouched behind a rusted steel beam, peeking around it to get a better view. There were at least six of them-
armed, judging by the bulges under their jackets. My wolf snarled quietly in my mind, urgingto shift, to fight,
to rip through them all to get to Grayson. But | pushed the instinct down, knowing that brute strength wouldn't
helphere.
Not yet.
| scanned the room, looking for any sign of a way down. My gut toldGrayson was below, in a vault or a

“Grayson, hold on,” | whispered under my breath, my voice trembling with urgency.
Suddenly, Isabella’s voice surged into my mind, loud and sharp
‘What the hell do you think you're doing?!’ she demanded, her tone a mix of panic and fury.
I winced, my hand instinctively going to my temple as if | could block her out.
I'm getting to him," | whispered fiercely, hoping she could hear the conviction in my tone.

‘Get back out here!’ she shouted. “You're going to get yourself killed! Strategize with us. You don’t even know
what you're walking into!”
‘I don’t have time, Bels!’ | hissed, keeping my voice low as | adjusted my position behind the beam. ‘You, Rickon
and my mother figure something out. Just don’t let them know you're here, or they'll blow the vault before | get
to it.
‘Lilian, you stubborn-*
‘I'm cutting the link.
‘Don’t you dare-!"
| severed the connection before she could finish, the sudden silence in my mind almost as loud as her voice had
been. My body trembled, the weight of my decision sinking in, but I couldn't afford to falter. Grayson didn’t have
tforto play it safe.
| edged forward, keeping my movements slow and deliberate as circled around the group of men. One of them
paused near a stack of crates, pulling out his phone. | froze, pressing myself flat against the side of a machine as
he answered the call.
“Yeah?” The man said, his voice gravelly.
| strained to hear the other voice on the line, but it was too faint distorted by the distance. Still, something about
the voice on the other end felt... familiar. My stomach twisted.
“Understood,” The man said after a pause. “We're almost done here. Just a few more minutes, and we'll be out.”
My blood ran cold. | didn’t have that much tanymore.
The man turned, his boots scuffing against the concrete as he started walking in my direction. My heart
thundered as | pressed myself tighter into the shadows. If he saw me, everything would be over.
He stopped just a few feet away, leaning casually against the edge of the machine | was hiding behind. My pulse
was a deafening roar in my ears as | tried to remain perfectly still, barely daring to breathe.
“Yeah, yeah,” He continued into the phone. “Everything's set.”
He paused for a moment then laughed at something the caller said, his tone laced with dark amusement. “I am
aware of the change in plans. You can be assured that it will all fall through.”
What change in plans? | gritted my teeth, forcing myself to focus. | couldn't let fear take over. | needed to find a
way to get to the vault before it was too late.
The man finally ended the call, shoving his phone into his pocke as he walked away. | stayed frozen for a
moment longer, waiting until his footsteps faded into the distance before | move. My legs screamed in protest as
| crouched lower, slipping through the maze of crates and machinery toward the far end of the factory.
There had to be an entrance to the vault somewhere. My wolf could feel it, a faint pull in my chest that guided
As | crept closer, | noticed a heavy metal door tucked into the corner of the room. Two men stood guard in front
of it, their stances tense and alert. My instincts screamed atto act, but | forced myself to stay hidden,
watching them for any sign of weakness.
Suddenly, Isabella’s voice tugged at my mind again, softer this tbut no less urgent.

“I don’t have a choice,” | whispered, my voice barely audible. “Ju trust me, okay?”
Damn it, Ava,’ she growled, but she didn’t push further.

| exhaled shakily, cutting the link again. My focus sharpened as turned my attention back to the guards. | needed
a plan, and | needed one fast.
The sound of the men shifting their positions gavean idea. If | could create a distraction, something to draw
them away from the door, | might be able to slip past them unnoticed.
| glanced around, spotting a loose pipe lying on the floor nearby. My fingers closed around it, the cold metal
biting into my skin.
This was it. | only had one shot.
| adjusted my grip on the pipe, every muscle in my body coiled tight like a spring. My breathing was shallow,
quiet, but my heart felt like it was trying to beat its way out of my chest. The guards were only a few feet away,
and the faint scrape of their boots on the concrete made my nerves buzz. This had to work there wasn’t another

| hefted the pipe, calculating the angle, and threw it as hard as | could toward the far end of the factory. It
clattered loudly against the floor, the metallic echo ricocheting through the cavernous space. Both guards jerked
their heads toward the sound, their hands instinctively moving to their weapons.
“What was that?” one of them muttered, already moving toward the noise.
“Could be one of the others. I'll check it out,” the second replied, following him.
| pressed myself further into the shadows, waiting for them to disappear into the maze of crates and machinery.
My chest rose and fell in rapid breaths, my wolf growling impatiently in my head.
‘Move now,’ | urged myself, slipping from my hiding spot. My steps were light but quick as | darted toward the
now- unattended door. It loomed in front of me, heavy and foreboding, but I didn’t have tto think about what
lay on the other side.
| grabbed the handle and pulled, the metal groaning in protest as the door creaked open just enough forto
slip through The dim light of the factory gave way to a narrow hallway lined with flickering fluorescent bulbs.
For a moment, | allowed myself a sliver of hope. ‘Almost there,’ thought, my instincts screaming that Grayson
was close. | took a step forward, then another-
Pain exploded at the back of my scalp as something yankedviolently backward by my hair. A startled cry tore
from my throat as | crashed to the ground, my back slamming against the cold concrete. The air was knocked
out of me, leavinggasping as | scrambled to regain my senses.
| looked up in tto see one of the men looming over me, his ps curling into a cruel smirk.
“He said you would come,” He drawled, his voice dripping with dark amusement.
My wolf surged within me, and | tried to push myself up, but before I could react, his claws extended gleaming
wickedly under the flickering light, and in the split second it took forto process what was happening, they
