Chapter 154

Two months,

roat. My heart hammered, each beat sounding too loud in be possible? | tried to move, but the ground beneath

me

The world seemed to halt around me, my breath caught in my my ears. Two months? | couldn’t make sense of it.

How could th felt like it was slipping, shifting, like | was losing my grip on everything.

The air was thick with confusion, laced with fear, but also sing darker-something that I couldn't place, but |

knew it was there. My mind scrambled, struggling to piece it together.

Grayson stood still beside me, not saying anything at first, his expression unreadable. | could feel his presence,

the tension radiating off him. And then, finally, he spoke, his voice filled with authority but it felt forced.

Like he wanted. No needed to immediately understand what the hell had happened so he could be on top of it.

“We need to get you back to the estate.”

| blinked, trying to process, still reeling from Isabella's words so his words barely registering as | looked back at

her, “Two months? | stuttered, my voice cracking with disbelief. “What do you-what do you mean? How? How

could it be two months? | was-“I broke off, shaking my head as if | could shake the fog out of my brain.

The confusion was too much.

Isabella opened her mouth to speak, still staring atlike she couldn't believe | was here but before she could,

Grayson lifted me, sweepingoff my feet, and in that moment, | didn’t have the strength to fight it. I didn’t

understand what was going on, but | knew | needed to trust him.

Trust why he was being so calm when we both just found out that we had disappeared for two months.

He carriedbridal style, moving past the men who stood silently in his path, their heads bowed as we passed.

| didn’t speak. I couldn’t. My mind was still clouded, swirling with a hundred questions that | couldn't even begin

to form into coherent thoughts.

“Grayson,” | whispered, barely audible, as | buried my face against his chest, the words slipping out before |

could stop them. “Two months... we... How?”

He didn’t answer. His body was stiff, his movements deliberate, and though I didn’t know if it was from the shock

| was feeling or something else.

“Where are we going?” | managed to get the question out through the fog in my mind. The words felt heavy, as if

| had to force them through the confusion that clouded me.

“We're not far from my estate,” he said quietly, his voice steady, but distant. “I recognize the woods. We'll be

there soon.”

I didn’t respond. | just closed my eyes, burying my face further into his chest, trying to process everything, but

nothing made sense. How could two months have passed? My thoughts tangled, every question racing through

my mind like a thousand storms, but | couldn't seem to grasp anything.

When we reached the estate, the first thing | noticed was the silence. Everyone we passed stared at us like they

were seeing a ghost, their expressions wide-eyed, mouths hanging open in shock. | could feel the weight of their

gaze, but Grayson didn’t slow down. He didn’t even look at them. His stride was purposeful, unbroken, and it

only madefeel more lost.

Two months. How?

Before | could even process the answer to that question, I felt melf being lowered onto something soft. My borly

isteret the change before my mind could keep up, and | real ed that we were in a room. Grayson’s room. He was

abour to turn away, but before he could, | caught his hand, my grip werk brut desperate.

Grayson. | whispered, barely able to keep my voice steady. “Tw months.”

He didn’t look atat first, but when he did, his gaze softened. Then, without a word, he leaned down and

pressed a soft kiss to my forehead. “Go to bed. We'll talk tomorrow,” he said, voice gentle but firth, as though he

was trying to soothe me, or perhaps himself.

And then, just like that, he turned and walked out, leavingalone in the room. Stunned. Confused. | stared at

the door long after he left, the words swirling in my head. Two months?

How could | sleep after everything that had happened? After eveything | didn’t understand? We had only been in

this place a day-two days, tops. So how could | have been gone f

| heard voices outside the door, muffled at first, then louder the | heard Isabella's voice, “I'm going in because |

need to talk to my best friends that disappeared with you for two whole months. Do you understand that?”

The door suddenly burst open, and she stepped into the room, her eyes wide with relief and disbelief.

“You're here,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “You're actually here, Lilian.” She looked like she'd seen a

ghost.

| saw Grayson glare at her from behind before turning and walking away but | couldn’t bring myself to speak. |

didn’t know how just stared at her, my mind racing, searching for something-anything-that could make sense of

this.

“Why would you just disappear for two months and not tellwhere you were going? You didn’t even call. |

mean, if you wanted to get away from everything, I'm your best friend-1 would have understood.”

| sat up straighter, rubbing my temples to stave off the oncoming headache. “Bels, you don’t understand. |

wasn’t gone for two months. | was gone for a night, maybe two days at most. Time... it passed differently there. |

don’t even know how we ended up there.”

She walked toward the bed and sat down, her brow furrowed. “Where did

you

end up?”

“I don’t know, Bels,” | said, my voice rising with frustration. “Everything happened last night. The ball, the panic

attack, the shifting-and then | was attacked by hunters. Grayson saved me, and when | woke up, we were in

this... place. It felt different. The trees seemed alive, like they were closing in on us. Then we were attacked by

something-it looked like a wolf, but it wasn’t-and | jumped in front of Grayson. The next thing | knew, we were

back here. Two days, Bels. At most.” | tugged at my hair, feeling like | was losing my mind. “I couldn't have been

gone for two months!”

“Except you were,” she said firmly. “And you and Grayson have been making headlines. ‘Billionaire and his wife

vanish into thin air.’ That's what people are calling it because that’s exactly what happened. After you shifted

and ran, | went after you, but | lost your trail. Then Eliza toldshe saw Grayson leave after you, and neither of

you cback the next morning. So | went into the woods looking for you.”

Her voice grew quieter, her tone haunted. “I found the hunters. They were torn apart, scattered like... like a

massacre. But my wolf couldn’t catch your scent or Grayson’s. | called Liam, but he brushed it off, said Grayson

probably took you to another country. Then Elaine grabbed the phone and the bitch hung up on me.”

She let out an irritated sigh. “So | called Rickon. | had this feeling that something was wrong. He brought Ricardo

along- you know, the Alpha from Italy who was supposed to be dead-and when a week passed without any word,

the humans got involved. You were officially tagged as missing.”

froze at one name. “Ricardo? | can’t remember his last nright now.”

She nodded.

My frown deepened. “What is Rickon doing with him? He tried to havekidnapped. No, he did have me

kidnapped.”

“You're focusing on the wrong thing here, Lilian,” she said sharply.

OUSTI

Her words pulledback, and | remembered the other version exact words and | clicked my tongue in

frustration. “What about my parents?”

Isabella’s eyes flashed with anger. “In the history of terrible parets, those two are at the top of the list. They

refused to release men to help with the search. Your mother said-and 1 qte-I have no wish to participate in

another one of Ava’s attention-seeking stunts after the embarrassment at the ball. Then she hung up. They've

basically locked themselves away in their house and hospital, refusing to talk to anyone.”

If I said | was surprised. I'd be lying. Still, hearing it out loud stung more than I'd expected.

“So two months of my life are just... gone?” | laughed bitterly, my hands clenching the sheets. “I'm probably

fired by now.”

Isabella shook her head. “I'm sure if you cup with a good explanation for why you disappeared-one that

doesn’t involve an alternate universe with tpassing differently-you get your job back. But that’s not what

you should be worrying about. A lot has happened since that night.”

That night. A night that, for me, had only just ended. For everyone else, it was a memory two months old. | didn’t

want to think about it, didn’t want to face it.

?

“Crystal,” | asked shakily, my voice barely above a whisper. “How is she? And the baby?”

Isabella’s expression toldthe answer before her lips moved. My stomach twisted painfully as she hesitated,

and | already knew it was something terrible.

“She's fine,” Isabella said slowly, her voice soft but steady. “Last | heard, Crystal's okay.” She stopped, her next

words clearly weighing heavy on her. “But the baby is...”
