Chapter 151
Chapter 151
-Ava’s POV-
I should have been terrified.
0170
| was supposed to feel panicked, confused, and overwhelmed by the situation. But strangely, | wasn't. First, we
ended up in a strange place that didn’t feel quite right. Then, without warning, we were thrust into what could
only be described as a void. It was a disorienting experience, and in that split second, before it all happened, |
was terrified, but then something else washed over me.
A grim acceptance.
| realized my life could never just be simple, never just calm. After all, | had a fate predestinewith an
asshole, and then a second chance with someone new - someone who brought more chaos and into my
life than | thought possible. Now, both of us had been thrown into the unknown, a place that | couldn't even
begin to understand.
So, | wasn’t scared. No, | was just... tired. Tired of everything, tired of fighting it all, and most of all, I just wanted
to sleep.
“Are you okay?”
Grayson'’s voice pulledfrom my thoughts, and | turned to look at him. He was as composed as ever, his face
a mask of calm. “Yes,” | replied, though | didn’t feel quite the sway.
I glanced around us, noticing the darkness that surrounded us like a thick fog. “Shouldn't there be slight
we're supposed to walk towards?” | sighed, the exhaustion creeping into my voice
“What light?” Grayson asked, clearly confused.
“I might have seen it in a movie,” | muttered. “You know, when people are thrown into places like this, there's
always a light They say it's ssort of beacon. If someone or sforce is going to drag us into this place,
they could at least get the details right. | mean, con, mysterious force,” | called out to the void, “get your
facts straight!”
And then, as if on cue, the light came. But it wasn’t the gentle beacon | expected. No. It was more like a sudden,

screamed, pain coursing throughas | struggled to get back to my feet.
Grayson’s voice cut through the haze of pain. “You're awake.”
| blinked, my vision clearing, and | realized something had changed. | was no longer in that void. No, | was back
in the sspot I'd woken up in before.
What the hell was happening?
“My wolf is gone again,” Grayson said, sounding unusually detached. “So you'll have to reach out psychically
and call for someone to get us out of here. We need to start moving.”
| froze. No. No, no, no. We'd already had this conversation. I ignored him, turning to the air, my voice rising in
frustration. “Whatever sick joke you think you're playing, it's not funny. Letout of here.”
in
“Who are you talking to?” Grayson snapped from behind me, and | turned to see him standing there, a flash of
annoyance in his eyes. Send the message.”
| took a step back, shaking my head. “This is all in my head. | need to get the hell out of here. And you're not
Grayson.”
“You're right,” cthe cold reply.

And then, just like that, everything faded again, the world blurring before my eyes. | was back on that street, the
one | had been before, where the houses all looked the same. | turned, and there she was. The other version of
me. Her smile was full of satisfaction.
“Did you miss me?”
A surge of anger flooded through me. “What is this? Where am I? Where's Grayson?”
She looked atwith an almost bored expression. “You don’t have a lot of qualities | admire, but that sharp
mind of yours has always been one of them. So you figure out what’s happening.
| stared at her, feeling more lost than ever. | have no clue what's going on.”
She sighed, the irritation in her voice clear. “You only see and speak towhen you're unconscious. So hurry up
and get there, Ava.”
“Am | still unconscious from the tranquilizers?” Panic hitlike a brick wall. If that were true, then everything |
thought had happened...hadn’t. | was still caught by the hunters. No. | needed to wake up. | needed to get away
from them because | had no idea what they would do to me.
“Why the hell are you smiling?” | demanded, my voice trembling. “You exist in my head, and if | end up dead,
then you won't exist anymore. So helpwake up.
She raised an eyebrow, still smiling. “After everything we’ve been through, you still don’t get it? You're so
uptight. I've told you everything, and yet you're still stuck in this mess.”
“I'm not uptight! I'm in serious trouble, and you're standing there smiling like this is a gto you!” | snapped.
“But it is,” she replied calmly. “Life a game, and we're all players in it. Sof us are better at running,” she
said, disappearing and reappearing behind me. “And sof us do whatever it takes to win.”
| let out a frustrated sigh, trying to curb the anger bubbling inside me. “I need to wake up. So why don’t you just
giveone of your lessons, and we can both go our merry ways until next time?”
She was silent for a moment, her eyes narrowing with almost a calculating look. “You're distracted, Ava. You're
so stuck in your head, refusing to actually listen. | told you a war was coming. And what have you done since
then? Picked the wrong fights with your parents and let the one person who was supposed to stand by your side
slip away.”
“What are you talking about?” My head was spinning.
“Everything. But that’s not important. I've told you everything | can. I'm here because you're unconscious. So
focus. There are things you're missing because you're focusing on the wrong things.
“Then why don’t you just tell me?” | demanded. “What's with all the mystery? Just tell me, and everything can
be easier, and | can finally have speace.”
Suddenly, | heard a voice, faint but clear, echoing around me. “Aya? Can you hear me?”
It was Grayson. | glanced up, realizing the voice seemed to be coming from above.
The other version ofsmiled one last time. “I guess our thas cto an end. Until next time.”
| reached our, shouting. “Hey! Telleverything! What was my wolf going to show me?”
But she was gone. | blinked, my eyes snapping open and Grayson was staring down at me, his face filled with
relief. “You're okay.
| exhaled shakily, still processing everything. “You're not mad at me... for what happened with Dylan?”

Before | could even process the words, they were out of my mouth. He smiled faintly, though his expression held
a strange mixture of concern and something deeper. “I was... but then | heard you were in trouble.” He sighed,
the weight of it all catching up to him. “I guess I'm not mad anymore, but now, I’m going to need you to use your
psychic abilities to send a message.”
What?
| glanced around, trying to make sense of it all. We were still in that place where we had been in my dream
except the conversation was a little different this tbecause he wasn’t mad at me. | turned back to him, my
voice shaky, “What did you just say?”
His gaze hardened, “My wolf is gone again. I'll deal with it later. But right now, | need you to get us shelp.”
| reached inside, hoping to connect with my wolf, but all | felt was a cold emptiness. Deja vu grippedtightly
as | realized, once again, she wasn’t responding.
A heavy sigh escaped me. “She’s not answering.”
He glanced around, his eyes darting from the ever-changing shadows to the trees. Then he looked back at me,
“Then we've got a serious problem. We're trapped here... and we can’t get out because of the-"
“Barrier,” | finished for him, my voice barely a whisper. A sudden chill ran throughas | saw the flicker of
surprise flash across his face before he nodded grimly.
“But that’s not all,” he continued as he turned his gaze toward the trees, and for the first time, | saw it too. They
were moving, slowly but steadily, creeping closer like something out of a nightmare. “I thought it was just my
imagination at first... but now, I'm sure. The trees are closing in, Ava. We need to get out of here before they
reach us... or we might not ever make it out.”
