“She didn’t bail her mother out?” Izzy glanced up, her brows furrowing as she turned toward Liam, who was
lounging on the couch, a book resting in his hands.
Liam nodded, barely looking up.
Izzy leaned against the edge of the bed. “Why? Was it the money? Or had Monica finally given up on her
mother?”
Liam flipped a page. “She hasn't left the apartment in days. She’s been ordering food, so we know she’s still
alive.”
Izzy exhaled slowly, turning her gaze toward the window. That sounded harsh, but she didn’t comment on it.
After catching Amalia trying to pawn the stolen property deeds again, Izzy finally recovered everything that
belonged to her. The trap had worked. There was nothing left tying her to them.
She inhaled deeply. Cecil and Calen’s situation was far from over, but Monica and Amalia’s was almost done. It
was tfor her to talk to Monica.
The next day, 1zzy stood outside the worn-down apartment door they had rented. Without hesitation, she
knocked.
The door creaked open, revealing Monica on the other side. She looked awful. Her hair was a tangled mess, dark
circles shadowed her eyes, and the oversized hoodie she wore hung loosely over her frame. The stale scent of
beer and unwashed clothes wafted through the small opening.
Monica stared at Izzy with dull eyes before scoffing. “Are you here to mock me?”
Izzy met her gaze evenly. “I'm here to talk.”
Monica leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed. “We have nothing to talk about. My mother’s in prison, and
I'm stuck in this dump. What else is there to say?”
Izzy snorted, crossing her own arms. “So, you've been abandoned by both Cecil and Calen and instead of doing
something about it, you're rotting away in here?”
Monica's jaw tightened. “What do you want?”
“I just want to talk.”
Monica let out a breath, then suddenly gave Izzy an unsettling smile. “Aren’t you scared? What if | decide to hurt

Izzy smirked. “You can try. | can handle myself.”
Monica studied her for a long moment before stepping aside. “Fine. Cin.”
Izzy entered, eyes sweeping across the filthy apartment. Empty beer bottles cluttered the small table, fast food
wrappers and takeout containers were scattered across the floor, and the air smelled of stale grease and alcohol.
The single window was half-covered by a ripped curtain, barely letting in any light.
Monica shut the door behind her before trudging over to the couch. She flopped down, grabbing an open bag of
chips from the armrest and popping one into her mouth. “Sit wherever you want.”
Izzy pursed her lips but didn’t move. Instead, she watched Monica, who barely looked like she cared about
anything anymore.
“You're really living like this?” Izzy asked, glancing around the mess.

Monica crunched down on another chip and shrugged.
“Cecil paid you off. You could leave this place and start over,” Izzy said.
Monica let out a short, bitter laugh. “Right. And where would | go? What would | even do?” She shook the chip
bag, staring blankly at the crumbs inside. “Cecil gavemoney, but she also made sure I'd never show my face
anywhere again. Every door | try to open is shut before | even touch the handle.”
Izzy folded her arms. “So, that’s it? You're just going to sit here, drinking yourself into oblivion?”
Monica licked the salt off her fingers before tossing the empty bag onto the floor. “What do you care?”
“I don’t,” Izzy admitted. “But | do want to know-why are you still here?”
Monica exhaled, sinking deeper into the couch. “Maybe because | have nowhere else to go.”
Izzy watched her closely. Monica wasn't just broke. She was completely lost.
Izzy sighed. “Then let's talk.”
.Monica let out another dry laugh but didn’t protest.
She was finally listening.
Izzy didn’t waste her time. She took her phone from her bag and started playing a recording. It was the recording
of 1zzy and Cecil in that bathroom when Cecil threatened her with a lawsuit if she didn’t marry Calen.
Monica barely reacted as the recording played, her blank eyes fixed on the ceiling while the sound of Cecil's
voice filled the cramped apartment.
Monica exhaled slowly, fingers tapping against the armrest. “Why are you lettinglisten to this bullshit?”
Izzy slipped her phone back into her bag. “Because | wanted you to know that Cecil was only using you.”
Monica rolled her eyes. “You think I didn’t know that?” She sat up, grabbing another half-empty beer bottle from
the table. “I'm not dumb, Izzy.” She twisted the cap off and took a swig, barely blinking as the bitter taste hit her
tongue.
Izzy raised an eyebrow. “Then why are you still sitting here like this?”
Monica's fingers tightened around the bottle. She didn’t answer immediately. Inwardly, she was replaying the
recording over and over in her mind.
She had known Cecil was using her.
She had known that the woman didn’t give a damn about her or her child.
But she hadn’t known that Cecil had forced Izzy into marriage with a lawsuit.
Monica had assumed that Cecil would pressure Izzy legally-force her into skind of deal to keep Calen tied to
her-but marriage? She hadn't expected that.
And for what?
For Calen to marry another woman in exchange for the life of her grandchild?
Her grip tightened until her knuckles turned white.
How ruthless.

She took another sip of beer, letting the liquid burn down her throat as she swallowed the rising anger inside her.
She couldn't let it show. Not in front of Izzy.
She wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction.
Izzy was watching her too closely like she was waiting for a reaction.
Monica set the bottle down with a dull thud. “Congratulations,” she said dryly. “You proved Cecil is a
manipulative bitch. What do you want, a trophy?”
Izzy snorted. “Well... aren't you wondering why | have recordings like this?”
Monica's fingers stilled. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on Izzy, watching her closely.
Izzy didn’t look away. “A few days ago, Cecil and her people drugged me. | don’t know what her goal was, but |
spent days in the hospital getting it out of my system. Maybe she wanted to setup with Calen again-force
me.”
“And what does this have to do with me?” Monica asked..
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Nothing,” Izzy said. “But... | would really hate to see you rot like this while Cecil and Calen avoid the
punishment they deserve.”
“You-You wanted to use me.” Monica quickly realized what Izzy wanted.
However, instead of giving her an answer, Izzy just placed a folder on the table. “Someone sent those images to
use my jealousy to get rid of you and Amalia. Think about that.”
Monica stared at the folder but didn’t dare touch it. She didn’t know if Izzy was telling the truth. However, Izzy's
words really did sound convincing. After all, the Izzy that she knew didn’t actually know how to scheme. If she
did, she wouldn't have believed Monica and Amalia for so long.
“I thought of giving this to you...” Izzy said. “That's all.”
With that, Izzy turned on her heel and left the room without waiting for Monica to respond.
Once outside, Izzy smirked.
Lying and manipulating people was such a terrible thing to do.
But somehow, it felt... liberating.
Outside the apartment building, Izzy tilted her head back, gazing up at the worn facade with a quiet sigh. She
was changing -she knew that much. But whether it was for the better or worse, she wasn’t entirely sure.
“Are you done?”
Liam’s voice pulled her from her thoughts. She turned to find him standing by the car, arms crossed, watching
her with a patient but expectant look. He had insisted on coming with her, concerned that Monica might lash out,
but she had refused
his offer.
Izzy exhaled and walked toward him, a small smile playing on her lips. “Yeah, I'm done.”
