Chapter 135

“Anna is safe. She’s currently resting. Just like you, she’s received ssubstances-questionable ones. My

people found her In a nearby hotel room, alone and asleep. She was brought to the hospital as well. Liam said.

Izzy stood near the window, staring at the city below. The streets of San Francisco were alive with movement-

cars weaving through traffic, pedestrians rushing along the sidewalks, buildings illuminated with the glow of

countless offices and restaurants. The world kept moving, indifferent to what had happened to her.

Her arms were crossed, her fingers gripping her own skin lightly as if grounding herself. She exhaled sharply. “Are

you sure it was Cecil?” Just a few minutes ago, Liam told her that he suspected Cecil was the one behind this.

However, he was almost certain, she wasn’t acting alone. Sadly, he couldn't find out anything about her

accomplice.

Liam leaned against the small table in the hospital room, his arms folded. “There's no hard evidence.” He

watched her carefully. “But that was expected. Cecil knows how to cover heracks. She's good at this.”

Izzy's fingers curled tighter against her arm. “She really will do anything to bringdown?

Liam pushed off the table and walked toward her. “Don’t worry about Cecil. She has her own problems to deal

with now.”

Izzy turned her head slightly, her eyes narrowing. “What do you mean?”

Liam reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a tablet. Without another word, he handed it to her.

Izzy took it and glanced at the screen. A live news broadcast was played. The anchor, a sharply dressed woman

with neatly styled blonde hair, was speaking in a serious tone.

“Breaking news this morning regarding the Weiss Foundation’s alleged corruption scandal. Documents leaked

earlier today suggest that millions of dollars in donations meant for children’s orphanages in Africa were never

properly allocated.”

The screen shifted, showing footage of a run-down orphanage with cracked walls and broken windows.

Malnourished children sat outside, swearing torn clothes, others playing with old, battered toys.

“The Weiss Foundation, which has received hundreds of millions in donations over the past five years, is under

fire for allegedly misusing these funds,” the anchor continued. “Reports indicate that instead of providing proper

aid, the orphanages only received secondhand books, worn-out clothes, and outdated supplies-while financial

records show significant transfers to private accounts linked to high-level executives.”

Izzy's grip on the tablet tightened.

The screen cut to a video of a man standing in front of one of the orphanages, his expression tense as he spoke

into the microphone.

“We were promised support-food, medicine, school funding,” the man said. “But what we got were old clothes,

things that weren't even useful. And yet, the Weiss Foundation still uses our pictures in their reports as if they're

helping us.”

The footage changed again, this tshowing an overlay of bank statements and transaction records. The

anchor’s voice continued.

“Among those implicated in the financial discrepancies is Cecil Weiss, the foundation’s head. Public records show

that multiple donations were funneled through shell companies before vanishing without a clear trace. The

question now- where did the money go?”

zzy exhaled through her nose, her eyes darkening as she watched.

The camera cut back to the news anchor.

“We have reached out to the Weiss Foundation for a response, but so far, they have declined to comment.

Meanwhile, legal experts say that if these allegations hold, criminal charges could follow.”

Chapter 185

Izzy lowered the tablet slightly and turned to Liam: “When did this break?”

“Early this morning.” Liam tucked his hands into his pockets. “The media is all over it. And given the scale of the

accusations, it won't go away anytsoon.”

Izzy's lips pressed into a thin line.

Cecil had tried to destroy her. But now, the world was turning against Cecil instead.

“You did this?” she asked.

Liam moved to stand beside her, his gaze fixed on the city lights outside. “I always prefer the fast and quiet way

of handling problems.” He slid his hands into his pockets. “I don’t give people the chance to figure out who their

real enemy is.”

Izzy turned slightly, studying him. The way he spoke, the way he carried himself-there was always a sense of

control. He didn’t rush. He didn’t make reckless moves. He struck when it mattered most.

“You were waiting for the right moment,” she murmured.

Liam glanced at her, a small smirk forming on his lips. “Of course. Why waste tfighting a battle when you

can end the

war in one move?”

Izzy exhaled, shifting her gaze back to the tablet in her hand. Cecil had been so focused on her that she hadn't

even seen this coming. Now, the woman who prided herself on controlling every narrative was the one

scrambling to stay afloat.

should have expected this from you,” Izzy said, placing the tablet down on the table.

Liam tilted his head slightly. “Expected what?”

She looked up at him. “That you'd take things into your own hands.”

His smirk faded. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. “They harmed my wife. You were

in danger. His fingers lingered near her cheek before he lowered his hand. | should have prevented it from

happening in the first place.”

Izzy shook her head. “It wasn’t your fault. | was the one who was stubborn. | wanted to handle everything

myself,” she sighed. “I apologize.”

Liam stilled for a second before suddenly leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to her cheek.

Izzy blinked. She lifted an eyebrow as she turned to face him fully. “What was that for?”

“I've known you since we were younger and that- that’s the first tI've ever heard you admit you were

stubborn.” His lips twitched. “I never thought you'd mature enough to say it.”

Izzy narrowed her eyes at him. “Excuse me?”

Liam simply shrugged.

She crossed her arms, pretending to be unimpressed, but the slight pout forming on her lips gave her away.

Liam chuckled and leaned in slightly. “Adorable.”

Izzy huffed. “I take it back. I'm never admitting anything to you again.”

“Too late,” Liam said smoothly. “I'll remember this moment forever.”

Izzy rolled her eyes but couldn't fight the small smile threatening to break through.
